A Honolulu bookkeeping firm

Makai is Hawaiian for “toward the sea.” We started the firm in Honolulu to give business owners books they can rely on, and someone who'll explain them.

Why we do this

Most owners didn't start a business to reconcile bank statements. What they want from a bookkeeper is simple: numbers that are right, a plain answer when they ask what those numbers mean, and someone who picks up.

That's the whole job, done carefully every month.

Who you'll work with

Delos Elder, a CFA charterholder, founded Makai after years in accounting and finance, first at PwC and then on Wall Street, and a stretch building software. Clients work with him directly, so the person you ask is the person who did the work.

How we work

  • A reply within one business day
  • The same person, every month
  • Your books in your own file, under your login
  • We work with your tax preparer, not around them

We're based on O‘ahu, so GET filings and the local economy are familiar ground. The work itself is remote, and we take clients from anywhere in the U.S.

Tell us where your books stand

The first call is free and takes 30 minutes. We reply within one business day.
